Cyclist hit by semi in Vernon

Police continue to investigate after a cyclist was hit by a passing semi truck on 27th Street in Vernon Wednesday morning.

A 38-year-old woman was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries after the incident at 1:40 in the morning near 39th Avenue.

The truck continued northbound on 27th after the collision and may not have been aware part of the vehicle had made contact with the cyclist.

“At the time of the incident, the cyclist was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and riding a dark colored bicycle,” said Cpl. Tania Finn, media relations officer.

“Police conducted patrols for the semi-truck and alerted police officers in the areas north of Vernon, Unfortunately, the vehicle was not located.”
