Police draw guns for courthouse alarm call

Feb 19, 2020 | 5:12 PM

An incident this afternoon at the Vernon courthouse led to onlookers wondering what was going on.

A caller to the Vernon Matters newsroom said he saw several police officers with their guns drawn around the building.

RCMP Cpl. Tania Finn says officers were dispatched to a panic alarm at the courthouse around 12:45 p.m.

“As the building was open and we did not have any further information, our members responded tactically and were met by B.C. Sheriff Service who advised the alarm had been activated in error, and the alarm was false,” said Finn.
