Feb 5, 2020 | 10:45 AM

Vernon had 36 per cent more precipitation than normal in January.

According to Environment Canada 50.9 millimetres in snow or rain fell over the month, about 13 mm above the normal.

However, it was not a record amount — in fact it was the 30th wettest January, with records going back more than 100 years.

As for the temperature, there was a wide range in January.

“We had temperatures as high as 6.4 degrees Celsius on the 27th, and on the flip side, we had down to minus 23.6 on the 13th of January,” meteorologist Bobby Sekhon with Environment Canada said.

Sekhon said there was a very cold spell early in the month and then it got quite warm at the end.

“Those two kind of cancelled each other in the stats and it came out to be a fairly normal month,” he said.

The average daily mean temperature was minus 3.3, slightly cooler than the normal minus 2.9.

February started off mild leading to Vernon setting a new temperature record over the weekend.

The mercury hit 10.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday Feb. 1, breaking the old mark of 10.3 in 2006.
