Countdown to 60th Winter Carnival

Jan 24, 2020 | 10:52 AM

The 60th annual Vernon Winter Carnival starts two weeks from today with the theme ‘Carnival Remembers the 60s.’

Over 120 events, including 21 new ones, will be held over the 10-day event Feb. 7 to 16.

Four events have already sold out.

The mid-winter festival will feature the much anticipated return of the iconic Ice Palace and the traditional Sheriff’s Jail.

“Other exciting highlights for the 60th anniversary include fireworks to kick off the festival on Feb. 7, the return of Jam Can Curling and ice carving for local students, and a new location for the Family Day and Polar Bear Swim events at Paddlewheel Park,” executive director Vicki Proulx said.

There’s still time for businesses to show their carnival spirit and get involved.

“Participate in Arrest the Best, the Best Decorated Contest, or the 60th Annual Winter Carnival Parade. The carnival brochure and buttons are available throughout the city,” Proulx added.

All events can be viewed online at vernonwintercarnival.com

Event tickets can be purchased on the Carnival site or by phone at 250-545-2236, or in person from the Carnival Office 3401 35th Avenue, open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4.p.m.
