Queen Silver Star candidates showcase talents

It’s down to the final three for the Queen Silver Star Excellence Program’s talent showcase.

The candidates presented the talents speeches Saturday at the Schubert Centre: Miss Johnston Meier Insurance, Piper Cahoon – dance; Miss North Okanagan Optimist Club, Eva Calder – spoken word; Miss Okanagan Restoration Services Ltd., Megan Fowles – water colour painting; Miss Century 21, Chaundra Hauber – photography; Miss Vernon Silver Star Rotary, Jessie-Leonia Knight – sculpture; Miss Vernon VW, Quintessa Louis – fancy shawl dancing.

The recipient of the People’s Choice Talent Award was presented to Quintessa Louis.

The top three talent finalists were announced in alphabetical order as follows: Piper Cahoon, Chaundra Hauber and Quintessa Louis

The first place talent finalist will be announced at the Proclamation of Queen and Princess Silver Star the 60th on Feb. 6, 2020 and presented with her scholarship at that time.

“This event is a fundraiser for the scholarships awarded to the candidates at the Proclamation, thanks to the generous sponsors to our silent auction we were able to raise over $2,100 for the candidates scholarship fund,” said Celine Grosch Queen Silver Star Excellence Program Committee Chair.

The sponsors are Nixon Wenger LLP, Legacy Photography, Teassential, Original Joes, The Castle at Swan Lake and numerous anonymous donations.

Future candidate events are as follows: Proclamation of Queen and Princess Silver Star the 60th – February 6, 7 p.m. at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre; Coronation of Queen and Princess Silver Star the 60th – February 7, 5 p.m. at the Vernon Winter Carnival Society and Ice Palace Snowflake Ball – February 8 5 p.m. at the Prestige Hotel Vernon.

Tickets will be available from the candidates, royalty, committee, Vernon Winter Carnival office, and provided the events do not sell out, at the door.
