A woman accused of attempted murder will await her trial in the community after she was granted bail Thursday afternoon.

Jennifer Singleton, born in 1981, appeared before a Vernon judge via videoconference from the Okanagan Correctional Centre.

The details of the bail hearing are covered by a court-ordered publication ban.

Singleton is charged with number of firearm offences stemming from a Dec 3. 2019 incident near Falkland and Westwold.

She is charged with three counts of attempted murder with a firearm, four counts of possessing a firearm without a proper licence, one count of using a restrictive or prohibited firearm, unlawfully discharging a firearm, flight from police and dangerous operation of a conveyance.

During the incident, Highway 97 was closed for several hours and Westwold Elementary was put on lock down. A media report from police that day said shots were allegedly fired when officers tried to stop a vehicle.

Thirty-one-year-old Darwyn Sellars is also charged in connection to the incident. He also faces three counts of attempted murder.

His next court appearance is slated for Jan. 22 to fix a date for a bail hearing.
