Jan 13, 2020 | 12:14 PM

Officials from Vernon’s Salvation Army are thanking the community for what it calls “tremendous support.”

The local social agency wrapped up its annual Christmas fundraising campaign, which raised over $346,918 from online, mail and kettle donations.

The funds will be used for Army programs to help individuals and families in need through the year.

“First and foremost, we want to thank our community for their tremendous support,” Lt. Stefan Reid of the Vernon Salvation Army said. “We will continue to provide the basic necessities needed for the people of our community. We are humbled by the support that this community continues to show The Salvation Army – Vernon throughout the entire year.”

The initial goal, when the campaign was launced in mid-November, was to raise $500,000.

By comparison, the announced final total for the Army’s 2018 Christmas campaign was $414,680.

People are reminded that they can continue to support The Salvation Army through financial donations and volunteering.

If they wish to do so, people can call the House of Hope or visit their website.
