Group pushes city for more bike infrastructure
The Downtown Vernon Association is calling on the city to continue to improve bicycle infrastructure in its business improvement areas.
The business group says the advent of the Okanagan Rail Trail will continue to bring increased bicycle traffic to and from the downtown core resulting in a greater need for convenient and secure bicycle parking.
“We are looking forward to building upon the success of the newly created bicycle culture in downtown Vernon, and through consultation with our board of directors, member businesses and our 2019–2022 strategic plan, we have identified two areas of bicycle infrastructure that could bring increased economic vitality to the downtown core,” wrote outgoing DVA events and marketing coordinator Dudley Coulter in a letter to the city.
The DVA is asking the city for bike corrals in two areas on 30th Avenue, a pilot for a bike sharing program, and wayfinding signage on Kal Lake Road at 14th Avenue directing trail riders to the downtown.
