Snow snaps: White-out conditions bring fun and a whole lot of shovelling

Jan 10, 2020 | 5:53 PM

It’s been quite the snowy situation with an estimated 15 cm of snow dumped in parts of Vernon Friday.

For a family from South Korea, today’s snowfall came as a fun surprise.

“It’s awesome because we come from Seoul South Korea and there it snows only two to three times a year,” said mom Lydia Lee.

“Here it is like a winter wonderland like in the movie Frozen, so we love it,” she said.

The family moved to Vernon in September to take part in the district’s international school program.

Cheers and laughter echoed throughout Mission Hill Park as kids Ian, Alice, and Siwoo took part in their new favorite Canadian activity: sledding.

“Come see my cave,” urged six year-old Siwoo while his little feet sprinted to the top of the hill to show Vernon Matters.

The youngster already seemed to master the art of making a creation out of the white stuff.

“I just dig it to make it and then I threw some rocks to crack through a wall to make it bigger,” the six-year-old said proudly.

While some spent the day playing, others spent the day shovelling. Snow shovels were out in full force in downtown Vernon, with many pitching in to clear the snow.
