UPDATE 11:24 a.m.

A snowfall warning has been issued for the North Okanagan.

Environment Canada says a pacific weather system will bring heavy snow to the North Okanagan, Shuswap and North Thompson today.

“Snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres are expected by this evening,” stated the weather agency.

It’s another white-out in the North Okanagan and other areas

Snow has been falling around the Vernon area since around 5 a.m., at times heavy, and some areas are expected to receive a total 10 centimetres of new snowfall.

According to Environment Canada, the Vernon area could get another two centimetres Friday night, 2 to 4 centimetres Saturday and more snow on Sunday before a cold snap grips the region with a low of -19 Celsius on Sunday night.

Road conditions are not good, although we have not heard any any serious accidents.

Spallumcheen resident Wade Kury said it was “white-out conditions” on the highway to Armstrong this morning, with visibility only at about 20 feet and several centimetres of unplowed snow on the road.

Kury said he almost hit a semi ahead of him due to the lack of visibility.

“He had his four-ways (lights) on and I happened to see his four-ways. That is the only reason I didn’t hit him,” Kury told Vernon Matters.

DriveBC says the main provincial highways are open at this point, while the Kelowna Airport is reporting some delays and cancellations this morning.

The only weather advisory is a snowfall warning for the Shuswap.

“A pacific weather system will give heavy snow to the North Thompson and Shuswap regions beginning this morning. Snowfall amounts of 10 centimetres are expected by this evening,” said the statement from Environment Canada.
