Salvation Army confident community will support campaign

Dec 13, 2019 | 9:56 AM

The Vernon Salvation Army’s main fundraiser of the year is trailing last year’s pace.

The Christmas campaign — which includes kettles outside local stores, along with online and mail donations — has generated $183,000 to date with 11 days to go.

That’s $23,000 behind this point in 2018.

The overall goal for 2019 is $500,000.

“First and foremost, we want to thank our community for their tremendous support,” said Lt. Stefan Reid. “The funds that are raised at Christmas not only help out individuals and families during the Christmas season but it provides much needed support all year round.

Reid adds they are confident the community will continue to support their efforts during this season and year round.

“We encourage those in our community to help us in any way possible. We know that this time of the year can be challenging for many, however it’s because of these generous donations that give people hope during the Christmas Season.”

People can make donations at any of the 11 kettle locations, they can drop them off at The Salvation Army – Vernon House of Hope at 3303 32nd Ave., or online at www.vernonhouseofhope.com.
