A man involved in a targeted break and enter in Lavington that turned violent has been sentenced to prison time.

Clayton Alan Williams, 28, plead guilty in Vernon Provincial Court to charges of break and enter with intent to commit an offence, disguising his face with intent, and breach of an undertaking.

The Crown entered a stay of proceedings on five other weapons charges.

The guilty pleas on Monday came on the day a preliminary inquiry to examine Crown evidence against Williams was scheduled to begin.

The B.C. Prosecution Service says Williams was sentenced to three years and 10 months (46 months) in custody.

“He received credit for the equivalent of 14 months of pretrial detention. The sentence would have been 60 months. He also received a lifetime firearm prohibition,” Dan McLaughlin, communications counsel told Vernon Matters.

The incident on February 8, 2019 started with a break-in at a home on Park Lane in Lavington with reported shots fired and one occupant being injured.

Police say an associated incident later that day led to a man dying of an apparent gunshot injury in a hotel parking lot on 27th Street in Vernon.

“RCMP officers have currently secured and are investigating multiple crime scenes, and believe that the two incidents may be related at this time,” said RCMP Const. Kelly Brett at the time.

Vernon Matters reached out to RCMP to see if any arrests or charges have resulted from the unidentified man’s death in the hotel parking lot.

“That aspect of the investigation in still ongoing. No charges have been laid at this time,” said Vernon North Okanagan media relations officer Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.
