$45 million water project contingent on grant

Dec 6, 2019 | 2:32 PM

A $45 million upgrade to the Mission Hill water treatment plant will only go ahead if the federal government provides a majority of the cost.

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee has decided to apply for $30 million from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure fund for a filtration system.

“If we get the money, we will proceed with it obviously ASAP. You have to apply for these grants because obviously you do not want to go back to the taxpayers time and time again for all these upgrades that are needed,” GVAC chair Akbal Mund told Vernon Matters.

Mund said the filtration would provide another level of protection for the Kalamalka Lake source.
