CUPE and Coldsteam ratify new deal

Dec 3, 2019 | 2:53 PM

The District of Coldstream and its civic workers have ratified a new labour deal.

The District said the five-year collective agreement, covering about 30 members of CUPE Local 626, is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2019, and runs until the end of 2023.

It includes wage hikes of two per cent a year along with small adjustments and improved language.

“The deal was reached after meeting with the mediator on November 18. It had to be ratified by both CUPE and District council which was completed [Monday], ” said Trevor Seibel, Chief Administrative Officer with the District of Coldstream.

“This agreement provides a reasonable balance between fair compensation and longer-term cost certainty for the community,” Mayor Jim Garlick said. “Council would like to thank the hard work of both negotiating teams in reaching this settlement.”
