Realtor's Food Drive

Single largest collection event for food bank on Dec. 4

Dec 2, 2019 | 2:52 PM

Realtors will be out in local neighborhoods this Wednesday for the 42nd annual Realtors Food Drive.

Grocery bags with notes asking for a non-perishable food donation will be tied to door handles the day before in Vernon and Coldstream, with pickup starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

“It is the single largest collection of food for the Salvation Army Food Bank and what is collected lasts until early summer,” said event spokesperson and Realtor Robin Baycroft. “The Salvation Army House of Hope has been an active contributor to Vernon’s social fabric for over 25 years. More than 1,100 people are being assisted through the Food Bank’s programs each month.”

About 32 per cent of those assisted are youth and children under the age of 18.

“The food bank is in great need, and the realtors in town are excited to get out there and walk the streets to try and help out in any way we can,” Baycroft told the Beach Radio Morning Show.

The most needed items are baby formula, diapers, boxed grains like rice, cereals and pastas, peanut butter, school time snacks, soups and pasta sauces, and canned beans and vegetables.

If any homes are missed on Dec. 4, residents can call any local real estate office and someone will pick up their donation.
