Nov 30, 2019 | 12:13 PM

You can ride the bus for free in Vernon today (Nov. 30), all part of one of the biggest events of the year in the downtown .

The city is providing free transit all day to make the annual Downtown Light Up more accessible and reduce parking and traffic issues.

Travel to and from other communities, including Coldstream, is not included.

The 26th annual Light Up is from 5 to 8 p.m. on 30th Avenue with over 40 vendors taking part.

There will also be live roving entertainment, a bonfire and marshmallow roast, food truck alley, children’s activities, a photo booth and more.

Event organizer, the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA), is looking forward to another successful event that brings the community together in a positive atmosphere.

The Light Up is truly a community effort,” said DVA Events and Promotions Coordinator, Dudley Coulter. “We [DVA] organize and market the event, but its really all of the businesses and non-profit organizations who make it special.”

Coulter also noted that he has been in talks with Santa’s elves, and it’s looking like Santa will be paying Downtown Vernon a visit for the evening.
