Stop those Christmas thefts
As we get ready to deck the halls for the upcoming holiday season, Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP are reminding the public to be vigilant and take steps to prevent those with sticky fingers from making off with our holiday cheer.
“Traditionally, at this time of year, there is an increase of thefts from vehicles, thefts of packages and other items that are quick to steal,” Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy, RCMP spokesperson, said.
Noseworthy has issued a list, while asking residents to check it twice, in order to make it much harder for thieves to work in our communities.
- Lock your vehicle doors, and don’t leave anything valuable in there.
- When winterizing your recreational vehicles, make sure you remove the propane tanks and store them somewhere secure.
- If you’re expecting a package delivery, arrange for it to be made while you’re home, or enlist help from your neighbours.
- Make sure your house is locked and secure if you’re leaving. Let your trusted neighbours know your plans.
- Keep an eye on your community. If you see suspicious activity, report it to your local police.
