SilverStar set for alpine season opening

Nov 27, 2019 | 11:34 AM

SilverStar Mountain Resort is set for its alpine opening Thursday.

Resort spokesperson Chantelle Deacon says they have a nearly 90-centimetre base at the top of the mountain and about 25 runs will be open, along with the Comet six-pack Express and Silver Queen lifts, the gondala and magic carpet.

“We have some of the best early-season riding conditions in B.C.,” said Deacon, the resort’s media relations manager. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to kick-off another amazing season on the slopes at SilverStar. Our 100 per cent all-natural snow surface is fantastic with good coverage and plenty of runs for everyone to enjoy.”

Deacon said they will have many American visitors at the mountain the next few days for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.

“Thanksgiving is a very popular time for them to come visit SilverStar,” Deacon told Vernon Matters.

The staff is ready for the skiers and boarders to arrive.

“We have hired most of our staff but there are always new openings on our employment page at skisilverstar.com,” Deacon said.

Deacon says Nordic skiing conditions are also good with more than 45 km’s of trails open for cross country skiers.

“Although we have good early-season conditions, it’s important to stay off runs that are not yet open, and to be safe at all times while riding the slopes.”

SilverStar’s annual Christmas light-up is set for Friday, which brings in thousands of people to the village.

“This is not only our biggest night of the year, but it’s also our busiest night of the year,” Deacon said. “We ask anyone who is planning on attending to make sure they get up here early to find parking.”

The light-up will feature everything from local crafts and talents, hot food and drinks, sleigh rides, fire dancers, fireworks and Santa Claus at 7 p.m.
