Distraught man with weapon taken into custody

Police shut down a street in Lake Country, diverted highway traffic, and evacuated nearby homes due to reports of an distraught man with a weapon on Roberts Road Thursday evening.

RCMP Cpl. Meghan Foster said officers were called to the scene around 5:45 p.m.

“When police officers arrived, a search of the area located the male alone in a wooded area nearby. The male was located in possession of a weapon causing police officers to shut down the street and evacuate homes close by,” Foster said.

A crisis negotiation team was brought in and talked to the man for about four hours before he surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
