Update: Aggressive bear in park

Nov 14, 2019 | 11:27 AM

Update 4 p.m.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service says it has not had any calls about a problem bear in Kal Lake Provincial Park, but urges anyone who has had an encounter to report it.

“Nobody called in about it, and this is the first I’ve heard of it,” said Conservation Officer Mike Richardson.”We’re not going to take any action at this time because we don’t know what exactly happened.”

Richardson has passed the information on to B.C. Parks whose staff will be monitoring the situation in Kal Park.

A Coldstream resident is issuing a warning to anyone planning to visit Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park.

The woman — who did not want to give her name — told Vernon Matters she was out with her dog near the park entrance off Kidston Road Thursday morning and encountered what she says was an aggressive bear.

“It charged at me and my dog,” she said.

The woman was not hurt, but was shaken up, and is advising others about the bear in the park.

At the time we talked to her, the woman had not contacted the B.C. Conservation Officer Service to report the incident.
