The renovation and expansion for the Pat Duke Arena in Lumby is well underway, and is now ready to enter the detailed design phase according to the Regional District of the North Okanagan.

Construction for the new arena is slated to start in Spring 2020.

Plans for the arena include four new change rooms, an upgraded entryway, and the renovation of the two existing change rooms in the facility.

The project is expected to go to tender this February.

“The RDNO is looking forward to revitalizing this arena for the community and we are invested in the success of this project” said Tannis Nelson, Manager of Community Services.

“We are moving it along as quickly as possible, but want to make sure that we get it right.”

The arena has been in the community since 1967, and the regional district says the lack of change rooms has meant female players have had to use inadequate facilities during co-ed games. The arena also poses mobility issues does not meet accessibility standards.

The White Valley Parks, Recreation, and Cultural advisory committee has approved $500,000 from the reserve fund for the existing arch frame.

On November 6, the board of directors for the Regional District of the North Okanagan also gave the budget funding a nod of approval.

The funds are in addition to the $100,000 the town won through Kraft Hockeyville in 2016 and $2,595,625 the district and town of Lumby were awarded in March 2018.

Additional funds include a grant from TELUS, $230,000 provided by the RDNO and $75,000 in community fundraising.
