Two familiar faces will be continuing their role as chair and vice-chair of the Regional District of North Okanagan.

Long-time mayor of Lumby Kevin Acton has been re-elected as chair while Electoral Area C director Amanda Shatzko will continue to serve as vice-chair.

“Getting re-elected as chair is very flattering actually,” Acton told Vernon Matters.

“I’m very happy to have the chance to continue working with the staff and the board to keep accomplishing what we already started. It’s been a great year. I think we’ve got a lot done and we’ve got some projects coming up, so I’m really looking forward to finishing them,” he said.

“I’m very appreciative of it,” remarked Shatzko.

“When I first got elected I was brought in as vice-chair, and the fact that the rest of the directors give me support, I really appreciate it,” she said noting that she is excited to embody the RDNO’s new slogan of one region one future, by collaborating more with member municipalities this year.

When asked by Vernon Matters about important projects in the works this coming year, Acton listed a few that are expected to have an impact on residents.

“Staff is working really hard with search and rescue to see something come ahead with their building that we are working towards gaining. We’ve got some big things that we are working on in Lumby with the arena. We’ve got a wastewater management facility that’s being worked on,”

RDNO is also welcoming new staff members this coming year and Acton said the board will be looking at the organizational structure of the regional district during the closed meeting.

Director Akbal Mund nominated the two during Wednesday’s RDNO Board of Directors meeting.

There wasn’t much competition as both positions ran unopposed.
