Update: Teen struck by vehicle suffers minor injuries

RCMP have clarified details about an incident first reported as a serious collision between a vehicle and a teenaged cyclist in Vernon.

Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says it actually involved a 14-year-old pedestrian who was crossing Allenby Way at 27th Avenue in a crosswalk Tuesday afternoon when he was hit by a vehicle.

“The driver, unfortunately, just didn’t see him,” said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

The teen was taken to hospital with minor injuries, not serious, as first reported to Vernon Matters by B.C. Ambulance.

Police say the driver could face a fine as the investigation continues.

“The driver is cooperating,” said Noseworthy. “During this time of year with the sun getting lower in the sky and visibility being an issue, we’re encouraging everyone, including drivers, to just keep your head up and make sure you’re paying attention, do all your proper checks and keep an eye out for everyone.”
