Advisory issued after water leak

Oct 31, 2019 | 2:39 PM

The Regional District of North Okanagan has issued an advisory about one of the main water sources in Greater Vernon.

A leak was found in the pipe that carries water from the Duteau Creek ultraviolet disinfection facility, and that portion of the treatment system will be temporarily turned off to allow for repairs.

RDNO says water will still be treated, but not with UV.

“[That] is the same process that was in place for years until the UV facility was turned on in February 2019,” an RDNO news release said.

Parts of Coldstream, Lavington and Area D rural Lumby are impacted.

The agency says some residents may want to use boiled or bottled water.

“Out of an abundance of caution, anyone wishing additional protection, including infants, and those with a compromised immune system may wish to boil water for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or when brushing teeth.”

It’s not known how long the repairs could take.

“We are still assessing the leak, so until we can diagnose the extent of the leak, we will not know an exact date, but updates will be posted to our website at www.rdno.ca and sent out to subscribers of the email alert system,” the release added.
