Now needs provincial approval

Council supports first pot shop for Armstrong

Armstrong council has given its support to the city’s first recreational cannabis store, which now goes to the province for licence consideration.

“This was our very first one, for the City of Armstrong,” Mayor Chris Pieper told Vernon Matters.

The store called The Higher Path is proposed for a building at 2580 Pleasant Valley Boulevard, next door to a liquor store.

“It’s an empty building right now. It’s John Trainor’s old financial building and it’s right beside the downtown liquor store, so you can get both your needs with the same parking spot,” Pieper said.

Pieper says the city had no opposition from nearby land owners or the public.

He said the two people behind the application — led by Dave Streloff — currently operate cannabis stores in Castlegar and Trail.

“They know the protocol and they know the system,” the mayor added.

The city’s application fee for recreational cannabis stores is $700.
