Mother speaks in support of OD prevention site

Oct 15, 2019 | 5:30 AM

A number of groups and residents have said they don’t want an overdose prevention site (OPS) in Vernon, but city council will hear from someone today who does want the facility.

Sandra Welton is scheduled to appear as a delegation this afternoon, seeking an update on the status of the facility which Interior Health has been getting input on.

Welton says in a letter to the city, her daughter Mehgan died from an overdose in May, and she feels the site will save lives.

Interior Health put plans to issue a request for proposals to operate an OPS on hold earlier this year after a backlash from residents, business groups and some council members.
