Museum looks to attract more visitors with new hours

The current opening hours at the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives will soon be history.

The community facility in the City of Vernon complex has announced new hours starting next week, aimed at getting more people into the building — and doing more things.

“The Greater Vernon Museum and Archives is excited to announce a change in open hours, effective October 17,” said a news release. “The new schedule is as follows: Tuesdays: 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (October 15, the Museum will be open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. for a one-time occurrence). Wednesdays: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursdays: 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Fridays: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturdays: 10 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.

Executive Director Steve Fleck says it’s part of making the museum a bigger part of the community and more accessible.

“I hope that the later hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays will allow the Museum to provide workshops, events, and time to tour the exhibits for individuals usually confined by business and school hours,” said Fleck.

Fleck told Vernon Matters last month he was hoping to have all their staff positions filled by Oct. 15 including a curator.
