First snow at Silver Star

Fall-like weather with possible snow for weekend

Sep 27, 2019 | 10:23 AM

It definitely feels like fall today as a cold airmass settles in over the B.C. Interior

The cooler, wet weather is also creating the possibility of snow at higher elevations.

Silver Star Mountain Resort got its first snow of the season this morning, a light dusting at its upper levels.

“The first snowfall of the year is always exciting,” said Chantelle Deacon, media relations manager, SSMR. “We are looking forward to another amazing year on the slopes.”

Late September to early October is generally when SilverStar sees it’s first snowfall. This years first snowfall of the season comes a few days earler than in 2018.

The Star’s tentative opening dates are Nov 15 for Nordic and Nov. 28 for alpine.

Weather advisories are in effect for several high elevation highway passes.

Rain or wet snow over the passes will change to snow this evening or overnight.

The Pennask Summit on the Connector is expected to receive up to 10 cm of snow tonight, while the Coquihalla Highway and Highway 3 could get 5 cm’s.

Environment Canada expects a return to drier conditions and seasonal temperatures early next week.
