Event Hires Manager, Opens Office
The Vernon & Area 2017 55+ BC Games have hired an operations manager for the event this September.
Luiz Araujo has an 8 month contract to oversee the games office and its activities.
Araujo is a former Toronto resident who was previously a senior manager of the security integration team for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.
Recently relocated from Toronto to be closer to his daughter, Araujo is excited with his Games role and being a new Vernon resident.
“Last year I decided to retire and my wife and I moved to Vernon to enjoy the wonderful Okanagan lifestyle,” says Araujo. “However, when the opportunity arose to work with the Vernon & Area 55+ BC Games in such a key role, I decided to postpone retirement for just a little while longer. It is great to be part of such a dedicated team and, at the same time, to be able to help my new community as it prepares to host 3,500 participants, officials, and spectators from all across BC.”
The Games society has opened its administrative office at 4007 27th Street in a partnership with Kal Mor Mortgages, and have a phone number 250.260.7869.
The office space provides the team with a central location for all administrative tasks, daily operations, and includes a small meeting space.
It’s also seeking more volunteers with about 200 signed up, and 12-hundred needed.
Those wishing to assist in the Games are asked to visit the volunteer registration link on the Games website, specifically www.55plusgames.ca/volunteers for more information.
