Rink Gets Upgrade

The City of Vernon’s main outdoor rink is about to get an upgrade.

Work to demolish the boards, fencing and lighting poles at the Centennial Rink at the Vernon Recreation Centre will begin Thursday, and last until Monday.

“We will be replacing the existing boards with a new board system, new fencing and there will be new benches, lighting and new speakers,” says Doug Ross, the city’s Recreation Services Director.

Ross says the cost of the upgrade is 160-thousand dollars.

“While demolition work is underway, access around the rink will be restricted for safety reasons,” says Tanya Laing Gahr, communications coordinator for the City. “Visitors to the Recreation Centre are asked to avoid the area and use alternative entrances.”

The project to revitalize the Centennial was approved by Vernon Council in June of 2016.
