Public hearing coming

Pot shop possibly coming to rural Vernon

A cannabis retail store could be making a mark in rural Vernon.

Electoral Area “B” Director Bob Fleming told Vernon Matters a pot shop at the Squires Pub location is slated to go before a public hearing sometime in September.

The applicants are already doing renovations to comply with provincial regulations, should they receive final the approval by the province.

“You can’t have anything connected so they are taking a portion of the Squires Four Pub which has been the banquet room and stuff and completely separating that,” said Fleming

“You wouldn’t be able to go from the pub to the cannabis retail store, you could not go from the liquor store to the cannabis you have to be outside, separate entrance,” Fleming explained.

If approved, the applicants could be one of the first provincially approved pot shops in an electoral area represented by the Regional District of the North Okanagan.

While the exact date for the public hearing has not been determined yet, Fleming said residents and businesses within 100 meters should expect to receive information on the proposal after the board of director’s meeting on August 21.
