Restaurant announces opening date

Aug 6, 2019 | 11:46 AM

Vernon will have a new national restaurant brand opening next week.

Cora Breakfast and Lunch — which bills itself as Canada’s largest restaurant chain specializing in breakfast and lunch — will open at 5601 Anderson Way Monday Aug 12.

The Cora Franchise Group Inc., which is based in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, has 130 franchised restaurants across the country, with 10 more opening this year.

“The new location is part of a nationwide expansion of the Cora network, making it the first restaurant in Vernon, the third in the Okanagan, and the eleventh in British Columbia, for the largest sit-down breakfast chain in Canada,” Isabel Picard, the public relations manager for Cora Franchises Inc. said.

Picard said they have hired 28 full-time employees and six part-timers.

“Our Operations and Training staff are presently on location to provide the franchisees and their team the Cora training prior to the opening. They are still looking to hire for all positions: cook, fruiter, servers, hostess, dishwasher. Resumes may be sent to corajobs@mcmillanolson.com.”

She added in addition to hiring locals to operate the restaurant, they have also worked in collaboration with people from various trades in British Columbia with regards to the construction, the signage, etc.

Picard said the franchise is a Canadian entrepreneurial success story.

“As a single mother of three in need of a career, Madame Cora Tsouflidou bought a small abandoned snack bar in Montreal (Quebec) in 1987 and was soon specializing in breakfast: egg dishes, fresh fruit, cheeses, cereal, omelettes, crêpes and French toast. Today, Cora Franchise Group Inc. has a network of over 130 franchised restaurants across the country.”

In addition to a grand opening on Aug 20, the restaurant will hold several giveaways during the week.

Kiwi, the chain’s mascot, will be present on Saturday and Sunday August 24 and 25 for a kids’ special weekend.

Picard said the grand opening will feature a “true Cora-Style celebration” including an egg-cracking ceremony, during which the first symbolic omelette in the restaurant will be made.
