Wetter July for first time since 2010

Aug 2, 2019 | 3:00 PM

Vernon’s weather in July was wetter than normal for the first time in almost a decade.

Environment Canada says 52.5 millimetres of rain fell over the month, higher than the normal 45.6 mm, the first time that’s happened in July since 2010.

“The previous summers have been really dry. Last summer in July, we picked up 8.3 millimetres of rain, and then in 2017, not a drop of rain,” meteorologist Matt MacDonald told Vernon Matters.

The average temperature was 19.7 degrees Celsius, slightly above the average of 19.1.

“What was interesting was the number of days we had highs above 30 degrees. We didn’t have many of those, only six throughout the whole month. July is known for its heat. Typically we see 11 days in July with daytime highs above 30,” added MacDonald.

The hottest day was 32.2 degrees on July 26.
