Man in mask robs gas station

Aug 2, 2019 | 12:16 PM

RCMP were out in force Thursday night, searching an area of Vernon for an armed robbery suspect.

A man wearing a “Deadpool” mask entered a gas station on 34th Street — believed to be the Esso-7-Eleven — around 11 pm, and threatened staff with a knife while demanding cash.

“The suspect grew impatient and fled the store without any cash, however not before helping himself to a beverage and a small toy. A multi-unit response, including the assistance of the Kelowna RCMP K9 unit, could be seen by residents as officers extensively searched the area for the suspect,” stated Const. Kelly Brett.

Brett says while the suspect wasn’t found, officers did get a detailed description of him from witnesses, which will aid in their investigation.

“The suspect is described as a male last seen wearing a black, red and white ‘Deadpool’ mask, a red t-shirt under a black and red checkered long-sleeve shirt, black pants and sneakers.”

No one was injured in the incident.
