Advisory lifted on Vernon beach

It’s safe to swim at a Vernon beach again.

A water quality advisory in effect for the last week at Kin Beach on Okanagan Lake has been lifted.

The advisory was put in place due to higher than allowable bacterial counts, but those levels have now subsided.

“The water quality advisory signs have been removed as of Friday, July 12,” a city news release said. “The beach area is open to the public and is safe to resume swimming in the area.”

Parks Planner Kendra Kryzak told Vernon Matters earlier this week, the wind was the biggest factor in stirring up the bacterial levels.

“Every time we have collected (samples) since the last time, it has been extremely windy. The milfoil hasn’t been removed as of yet, and there is a bit more geese this year as well, so a lot of things can be taken into consideration. The wind and the stirring up the bottom is a major [factor].”
