Conditions placed on accused physiotherapist

Jul 4, 2019 | 2:49 PM

A Vernon physiotherapist facing 14 sexual assault charges, has had several conditions put on his practice of physical therapy.

The College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia has issued seven conditions in an interim order against Stephen Witvoet that ban him from treating female patients of any age, and ordering him to keep a door or curtain open at all times when treating male patients.

Another measure states Witvoet must submit to, and cooperate with, random site-based audits, at the College’s discretion, to ensure his ongoing compliance with the terms of the order.

Joelle Barry, Manager of Inquiry and Discipline with the college, said the conditions are part of an interim order.

“They are in place until our investigation is concluded and/or sent to a discipline hearing,” Barry told Vernon Matters.

The accusations against the 47-year-old Witvoet date back to 2009, and he returns to court later this month (July 10 and 25) to face the charges.

The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
