Vernon’s first provincially approved cannabis store is expected to open its doors to the public on Canada Day, according to a news release.

The store, called Spirit Leaf is located along 2500 54th Ave, Vernon.

Sarah and Carson Ballantyre, two local Vernon entrepreneurs, will be in charge of running the business.

Spirit Leaf is a franchised company that aims to provide customer service in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The owners say they hope “to be a knowledgeable and trusted source of recreational cannabis and information on recreational cannabis.”

The store will offer a variety of leading cannabis products, and the parent company, Inner Spirit Holdings, is in the process of developing products with the plan to sell them at Spirit Leaf locations in the future.

Aside from Kamloops B.C., which has two provincially approved cannabis retail stores, Spirit Leaf in Vernon, marks the first privately-owned legal cannabis store in the valley.
