Update: One person dead after highway crash

Update:

Police are confirming one person died in a crash on the Trans Canada Highway west of Salmon Arm this morning.

Two pickup trucks collided head-on at 50th Ave NW near Pierres Point Road at 11:35 a.m.

The highway was closed for several hours for the investigation.

“At this early stage, the cause of the crash is unknown and nothing has been ruled out,” said Cpl. Mike Halskov.

Anyone with information on the collision, including any dash camera video, is asked to call TCETS in Revelstoke at 250-837-5255.

The Trans Canada Highway has been closed west of Salmon Arm

due to a serious motor vehicle crash, but Drive BC says it could reopen this hour.

The crash occurred near Pierre’s Point Road and the site is being examined by regional highway officers and a collision analyst.

Traffic has been having to detour on Highways 97 and 97B.

Drive BC says the highway could reopen at 3 pm.

Drive BC says Highway 1 west of Salmon Arm has reopened.

Vernon Matters has requested details on the crash from Salmon Arm RCMP.

The Trans-Canada Highway has been closed west of Salmon Arm due to a serious motor vehicle crash.

The closure point is at Pierre’s Point Road.

“The highway closure is expected to be lengthy as the collision scene is examined by regional highway patrol officers and a collision reconstructionist,” Staff Sgt. Scott West said.

The only detours are on Highways 97 and 97B.

According to Drive B.C., the next update will be at 2:30 p.m.
