Tolko pitches in

More daycare spaces

A new 63-place, much-needed daycare facility is set to open in Lumby this fall.

The Bridge Educational Society undertook the task of building the Early Years Daycare Centre for infant, daycare, preschool and school-aged care up to 12 years of age.

The society received major grants from the province and had a helping hand from Tolko.

The company supplied lumber and plywood for the facility’s construction.

Roxanne Brierley, the society’s treasurer said there is a critical need for childcare facilities in the Okanagan area.

“Based on our research we know that parents are looking for more child care options,” Brierly said. “By making more spaces available and offering a well-rounded program, these children will have the
opportunity to thrive in a caring environment and build a solid foundation.”

The curriculum’s focus will be to provide a safe and nurturing environment that fosters wonder and imagination, where children are immersed in a culture of community and are encouraged to connect with nature, according to a release issued Friday.

The daycare is scheduled to open by the end of this summer.
