Avoid fawning areas

More aggressive deer in Okanagan

Stay clear if you see a baby deer.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service said urban-deer conflicts are on the rise in the Okanagan with female deer aggressively protecting their fawns.

“It’s important for people to keep dogs on a leash, and also to avoid areas where deer are fawning. What you don’t want to do is get between the deer and a fawn, so be aware of your surroundings and be sure you have a safe exit,” Deputy Chief Chris Doyle said.

Doyle also reminds people to leave deer fawns alone, and not to try and rescue or handle them if they spot them on their own.
