Construction crews to work overnight on busy intersection

Jun 15, 2019 | 8:01 AM

The City of Vernon is planning construction work on 27th Street at the intersection of 32nd Avenue on Saturday, June 15 and at the intersection of 30th Avenue on Friday, June 21.

“In order to maintain site safety and reduce wait times, the majority of works will be done at nighttime hours to avoid high traffic volumes and reduce impact on the surrounding area,” according to a media release from the City.

Construction will start at 8 p.m. and continue into 12 p.m. the following day.

Road closures and detours will be in effect during work hours.

According to the release, every reasonable effort will be made to minimize the disruption to traffic, but motorists should be prepared for minor delays.

Meanwhile, repairs to 27th Street between 32nd Avenue and Highway 6 started May 21, and are expected to take five weeks. The project should conclude at the end of the month.

That project has led to the closure of the Highway 6 and 27th Street intersection at times.

Repaving is scheduled for the end of September to avoid high volumes of tourist traffic.

“We ask that the traveling public to be patient, slow down and obey all traffic control,” the release said.
