The Vernon Recreation Centre Auditorium is expected to be a busy place Tuesday night.

The City of Vernon is hosting a townhall meeting to get input from residents and business owners on crime, vagrancy, overdose prevention sites and open drug use in the downtown area.

“Council is asking residents and business owners for solutions both short and long term that may improve their neighbourhood in regard to the issues noted above,” says a media release from the city.

Speakers will be given a maximum of two minutes to make their remarks.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and is scheduled to last three hours.

CTQ Consulting of Kelowna has been hired by the city as the meeting facilitator.

“The role of the facilitator is to manage a respectful meeting, ensure speakers respect the time limit, record the comments of the public, and if required, ask clarifying questions of the presenters in order to capture accurate records,” says the release.

The city is spending $8,000 to hold the meeting.
