Raising Roof For Lavington Rink

Jun 3, 2019 | 6:10 AM

The community of Lavington is hoping to raise enough money to raise a roof on its popular outdoor skating rink.

“During the winter, the rink needs to be shoveled, scraped and flooded multiple times a day depending on the snowfall, this is all done by local volunteers, as early as 8 a.m. and then throughout the day,” says a press release.

Organizers say a roof over the cement pad would allow for a longer ice season and as shelter during the summer months or for community events.

The release says: “The rink is used by people from up and down the valley as people love the atmosphere of the outdoor rink, roasting a hot dog on the fire pit and enjoying the games of shinny that take place on the ice. Students from Lavington Elementary also use the rink for their gym classes.”

An online silent auction is currently being held via FaceBook and runs until June 15th at 8 p.m.

The site is Raise a Roof on Lavington Ice Rink – Online Auction.

Items include Vancouver Canucks  versus Detroit Red Wings tickets, Silver Star Mountain bike passes and an overnight stay for four a Cruiser bike donated by Sun Country Cycle and much more.

To donate to the auction, email Kym Lorentz at klorentz@shaw.ca or PM from the auction page.
