Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is suggesting a big change on the 29th anniversary of the Montreal massacre.

The P-M says his government plans to limit access to handguns and assault weapons, and is not ruling out a full ban.

Fourteen women were murdered by a male gunman on Dec. 6, 1989 at Ecole Polytechnic in Montreal, and today is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

A candlelight vigil to remember the victims will be held at 6 tonight at the Kal View Cafe at Okanagan College’s Vernon campus.

John Horgan will be part of a vigil tonight in the capital city as part of the National Day Of Remembrance.

Horgan says 29 years later, gender based violence and discrimination continues but the time for change is now.

“As we stand together and observe moments of silence in their honour, we recommit to using our voices and platforms to speak out, and to work together to end gender-based violence. “The time for change is now. Together, we can advance equality and build a brighter, safer future for women, girls and trans people in British Columbia, in Canada, and around the world,” said Horgan.
