New Firefighters Hired

The City of Vernon has added four new full-time career firefighters to the Vernon Fire Rescue Services team.

Ashton Sykes, Bryan Carter, Shawn Calder and Dave Robinson have joined the service as firefighters.

City spokesman Nick Nilsen says it brings the city’s number of career firefighters to 30.

Fire chief David Lind says the hirings mark a significant milestone in implementing an 8 year strategic plan.

“The plan moves Fire Services closer to a contemporary service model through a series of steps which will occur between 2018 and 2025,” says Lind.

“These talented individuals bring a wide variety of experience and skills to VFRS and are a great addition to our team,” adds Lind.
