Stinky Issue

Study Done On Stinky Issue

Dec 3, 2018 | 7:00 AM

It’s a stinky issue.

Mayor Victor Cumming says the city’s efforts to market itself as a tourist destination is being hampered by a “significant odour” coming from the sewer systems serving Tronson and Okanagan Landing roads.

“The significant sewer odour can be out of the park along Tronson Road and along Okanagan Landing Road,” says Cumming (pictured). “I think we’ve got very significant issues there that need full attention.”

“We’re trying to market ourselves as a tourist destination,” Cumming reminded council and staff during recent budget meetings.

Staff say a study is underway to what can be done with the odour issue.

In the meanwhile, Operations Services director Shirley Koenig says more odour-reducing product was being used, there was added flushing of the system and scrubbers were being added at a sewer station.

She says the sewer systems are fairly large and under-utilized — leading to waste going septic.
