Cannabis Bylaw Close To Approval

Nov 27, 2018 | 4:40 PM

The City of Vernon’s new cannabis bylaw is one step from final approval.

The bylaw sets the zones where retail sales of non-medical cannabis, along with cannabis growing, processing, research, and testing would be allowed.

It received third reading from council after a public hearing Monday.

City spokesperson Nick Nilsen says it’s expected to get final approval Dec. 10.

“Now the Ministry of Transportation needs to review the text,” says Nilsen.

Retail stores would be allowed in 13 zones, mostly commercial.

The City expects to start considering applications for pot stores in January.

Nilsen says it  was a “full house” for the public hearing.

“However, many were there for a different public hearing.”

Only one member of the public spoke about the cannabis bylaw.
