Drivers in downtown Vernon won’t have to plug the parking meters on Saturdays in December.

Free parking Saturdays are part of the Downtown Vernon Association’s campaign to encourage people to shop local.

“When you shop local you’re not only supporting entrepreneurs but helping to maintain our unique community character,” says Events & Promotions Coordinator, Dudley Coulter. “There are a collection of businesses offering one-day discounts and events this Saturday for Free Parking Day.”

Coulter says the Hot Chocolate Challenge takes place this Saturday from 11 to 1 encouraging people to taste the city’s finest hot chocolate at six different businesses and vote for their favourite.

“There will be 200 Hot Chocolate Passports printed and will be available for pick-up at any of the participating businesses or outside 3334 30th Avenue from 11-1.”
