RCMP Appreciation Petition

RCMP Petition Gathers Momentum

Nov 7, 2018 | 5:03 PM

A Vernon based petition continues to collect names in support of having February 1st declared RCMP Appreciation Day in BC.

Organizer Martin von Holst says the papers are at locations “all over town,” and they’ll also be collecting names at the Vipers game tonight.

He’s not sure how many signatures they have, but he says it’s been well received.

“I don’t have a handle on the numbers yet. We know they’re being signed. It has been well received. I haven’t had any negative feedback, it’s all been positive.”

Von Holst tells Beach Radio News they haven’t set a firm end date for collecting names.

“We had originally said Nov. 10th because we didn’t want to be an obstacle for Remembrance Day. We may continue it on a little further. I have to discuss it with my committee.”

Feb. 1st is the chosen date for the appreciation day as that’s the day the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was formed in 1920.

Vernon council gave its support to the campaign back in August.

The names will be collected and sent to the BC government for consideration.
