Vernon Drops On ‘Dangerous’ List

Vernon has apparently become a less dangerous city over the past year.

That’s the suggestion from the latest list of Canada’s most dangerous places in Maclean’s magazine which bases it on the crime severity index.

Vernon was 9th last year, and this year, ranks 24th.

Cst. Kelly Brett of Vernon RCMP told The Morning Star, due to Vernon’s smaller size, a single crime, or a crime spree by one prolific offender, can have a much bigger impact on the crime severity index, than in a larger city.

North Battleford Saskatchewan remains number one, while Williams Lake is BC’s most dangerous place in 8th.

Other notable cities on the list: Kamloops (28), Vancouver (42), West Kelowna (111), Summerland (124), Toronto (133), Lake Country (157), Salmon Arm (178) and Coldstream (201) in the rankings of 237 communities.
